Statement:
Twee begrippen staan in mijn werk centraal: de waarneming en de schilderkunst. De waarneming van de werkelijkheid zie ik als een voortdurende variabele interactie tussen subject en object. In de schilderkunstige verbeelding van deze interactie wil ik komen tot een vormgeving van de totaliteit van deze waarneming van de werkelijkheid. Voorop hierbij staat het vinden van een constante in de verhouding tussen de verschillende aspecten van deze waarneming. Het is dan ook niet verwonderlijk dat ik werk in de abstracte traditie. Hierin zie ik de grootste mogelijkheid om de concrete beeldelementen vorm te geven zonder deze een vooropgezette beperkende betekenis mee te geven. Ik streef ernaar te komen tot een zuivere schilderkunst.
Perception and painting are two major concepts in my work. The perception of reality is considered an everlasting variabel interaction between subject and object. In the visualisation of this interaction I strive to an image of this perception. Key-motive is to find an constant in the relation between the different aspects of perception. The abstract tradition provides me the best ability to visualize my concept of a pure painting.

Bio:
Op zeer jonge leeftijd werd het talent van Peter door zijn ouders herkend. Op Peter's verzoek nam zijn vader hem in 1969 mee naar de grote Rembrandt tentoonstelling in het Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam. Het was zijn eerste introductie in 17e eeuwse Nederlandse schilderkunst en bevestigde dat een toekomst in de kunst onvermijdelijk was. Na de middelbare school en daarna drie jaar de klassieke opleiding aan het Möller Instituut in Tilburg gevolgd te hebben bleek dat Peter zich sterk verwant voelde met de autonome schilderkunst. Om zich in die richting verder te ontwikkelen is Peter overgestapt naar de Koninklijke Academie voor Kunst & Vormgeving in ’s-Hertogenbosch. Zijn docenten waren 'de Amsterdamse Limburgers' en Peter is in 1982 bij Lei Molin en Ger Lataster afgestudeerd met een scriptie over het werk van John Cage. Na zijn opleiding had hij een master kunnen doen maar hij verlangde zo naar eindelijk(!)werken in een eigen atelier dat hij besloten heeft dat niet te doen.
I was born in a small village near ‘s-Hertogenbosch, Brabant, The Netherlands and count myself lucky to have working class people parents whom regognised my talent at an early age since I was drawing whenever I had the chance. At the age of 12 my father and I visited on my request the Rembrandt exhibition at the Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam in 1969. Besides what I've seen by then on the walls at primaryschool, and I was very impressed by it, this was my first introduction in 17th century Dutch art. After high school I studied three years thorough classical art education at the Möller Institute in Tilburg, to become an artteacher at my parents request. I switshed in 1979 to the Royal Academy of Fine Art and Design in 's-Hertogenbosch because I felt deeply engaged by autonomous art and artists and was eager to develop myself in this direction. I studied with the 'Amsterdam Limburgman', and was graduated, with my thesis on the works by John Cage, by Lei Molin and Ger Lataster in 1982. After my education I was very eager to work independent in my own studio. An studio offer I couldn’t refuse(!) brought me to the north of the country but I still feel deeply related to the great Brabant painting tradition. My work and the way it developed is influenced by the American school of abstract painters and the early contemporary composers, as well by the Dutch, the Danish and other European abstract painters in the early 20th century. My work deals with my emotional bond with shapes, materials and colours in which I always strive for a certain contrast that expresses a sense of being affected that I recognize in myself and things around me. It is this synthetic concretism where-in I strive for a fusion, within concrete painting, between the monochrome and the painterly gesture and thus give new meaning to the concept of painting within the fundamental imagery.
